The "Black Fire" experiment
It is a fascinating demonstration in chemistry where a flame appears to burn in dark or black hues instead of the usual bright colors. This effect can be achieved by using a low-pressure sodium lamp, which emits a yellowish-orange light. When the light from this lamp interacts with the flame, the sodium in the lamp absorbs certain wavelengths, making the flame appear dark to the viewer. This interaction essentially creates a “shadow effect” on the flame, leading to a unique visual where the flame seems to glow in black.

Studio & Darkroom
Low-pressure sodium lamps can sometimes be used in photo studios to create a monochromatic scene, adding a unique, dramatic effect. They are also an excellent choice for photographic darkrooms when paired with the Thomas Duplex Deluxe safelight. Together, they provide safe illumination while protecting light-sensitive materials, such as photographic paper and film, from unwanted exposure.

I have used several 35W Glow Object ballasts to convert 250W MV Hubbell lamp fixtures to 35W SOX. The GO ballast removes so much weight and is extremely reliable.I am now converting an inverted 100W HPS fixture to 18W SOX also using the 18W GO bundle. Great stuff!

The 90W, like other Glow Object ballasts, works extremely well. I have had no issues with the ballast and I am very pleased with it overall. I have used 2 of them, so far, to replace iron ballasts. If there was one suggestion I would make, I wish the wire terminals were screw contact vs the simple push / insert type. I have had no issues with the current terminal type but prefer terminals where positive locking can be made by tightening a screw. Overall, this is a great product!

It worked great on my 135W SOX lamp. The 180W lamp had a few issues: The ballast would ignite it but, after a few minutes, the red LED came on and I had to power cycle it. Then it ran longer and finally stayed on. It seemed to run a bit hot but I would expact that with a 180W lamp on it. The lamp id finally come up but one side, near the electrodes, never got as bright as the rest of the lamp. I only rn this lamp for about 15 mintues and it is a brand new lamp. It is an Osram lamp. The lamp was running perfectly horizontal the entire time. I intend to order several more ballasts, sockets, and a few lamps within a week or so. I have successfully converted 4 small fixtures to 18W SOX (from 150-175W MV/ HID) and 3 Hubbell 400W HID fixtures to 35W SOX using Glow Object ballasts. All work great! I am now concerting a couple Philips and Thorn street lights to glow object ballasts from the original 230V European iron ballasts. I hope to convert a 135W and a 180W lamp as well but do want to better understand what is happening with the 180W lamp and ballast. Finally, I have a couple old Thomas darkroom safelights that I have converted to electronic ballast. These are both 35W SOX. The now 40+ year old ballast run hot and are noisy. The glow object ballast fixes that right up albeit it is very difficult to get inside of those old Thomas safelights to do the work.Patience and tools.....

I acquired a few 35W SOX lamps and it was difficult finding a suitable ballast for it. I discovered Glow Object during my search, and I ordered their electronic ballast, made for 35 W SOX lamps.
My order was promptly delivered and the ballast works without a flaw. I have only had the lamp running for a couple of hours and hooking it up was very easy. I am happy with the purchase

Awesome

Performed exactly as advertised. Perfect for my experiments.

it was exactly what was advertised and came on time price was fair thank you... i hope it is okay to put a heat bulb in there

Excelente, llegó mucho antes de lo estimado.

I ordered a full SOX set (lamp, socket, and ballast) for a Halloween display I was making. The set worked perfectly and my friends and I greatly enjoyed the weird monochrome light. The ballast blew shortly after, and Glow Object promptly sent me a new one for free. I’ll definitely be using this light again in the future!

I ordered 2 18W tubes. They arrived in good time, were well-packed, and seem to be good quality when I've tried them out. Would be happy to recommend them.

Really good response and service.

The SOX-55W LPS lamp casts my living room in an eerie yellow ambience. True monochromatic light. I cannot see in color when this lamp is running. It's a warm yellow and quite bright, but seeing everything in yellow-scale creates an unsettling atmosphere. Invocative of the night life. I feel myself metamorphosizing into a moth when this lamp is running. Vibes are strange. Just as I hoped.
GlowObject packs and ships bulbs right. Can't be said for most others. I hope they can source these for a long time to come.

Spectacular!

Marvelous!
